Hypnosis consultations for Birth and Perinatal Care

Let's set the frame first : your fertility journey, your pregnancy and your birth are followed by health professionals — doctor, obstetrician, midwife — and nothing on this page replaces that. What hypnosis adds, alongside your care : easing fear, a calmer pregnancy, mental and physical preparation for birth, and support through the hard moments of the journey, from trying to conceive through post-partum.

With a promise in reverse : we will never promise a "painless" birth or a miracle method, and we will never tell you how to give birth.

Across Quebec, in person or online.

Preparing for Birth

Hypnobirthing: what is it, exactly?

Preparing for birth rests on a well-known loop : fear creates tension, tension amplifies pain, pain feeds fear.

Hypnosis works the first link : defusing fear, installing calm, and building the tools for the big day.

Health institutions take it seriously : the UK's public health service lists it among approaches to preparing for birth (NHS).

Straight talk : preparation helps many women experience a calmer birth, but the effect on pain itself varies from person to person.

Our position : zero ideology. Epidural or not, vaginal birth or C-section, hospital, birth centre or home : these choices are yours, with your care team, and hypnosis serves them all.

For the full guide to hypnosis for birth — method, evidence, myths : see our dedicated page.

Compatible with every kind of care here

A valuable feature of care in Quebec : you may be followed by a doctor or by a midwife (at a birth centre, at home, or in hospital).

Our preparation adds to your existing care, never replaces it : it complements the prenatal sessions from your CLSC or your midwife, equips your partner too, and stays valuable the day the plan changes — because births tend to write their own script, and flexibility is part of our work.

Why Hypnosis Helps Before Birth

Trying to conceive, and during the journey

When a baby is slow to come, every month turns into a rollercoaster, and the "just relax" from everyone around doesn't help.

To be unambiguous : hypnosis does not treat infertility and does not promise a pregnancy — that belongs to your doctors and fertility clinics.

What it does support : the stress of the journey (trying, assisted reproduction : the protocols, the waiting, the news), your relationship with your body, the couple under strain (see our Love Life page), and getting through hard news.

Preparing for the birth itself

From ordinary apprehension to intense fear that overshadows the whole pregnancy : fear of pain, of losing control, that something will happen to the baby, or the memory of a hard first birth haunting the second…

The hypnotic work acts on every layer :

  • defusing worst-case scenarios;
  • gently revisiting difficult past experiences from a safe distance (never reliving them — and if the experience was traumatic, a trained health professional steps in first : we'll refer you);
  • replacing fear with preparation : confidence builds session by session, with real tools in hand.

What birth preparation builds

  • For pregnancy : easing the stress of nine months (the test results you're waiting on, everyone's conflicting advice), getting your sleep back in late pregnancy (see our Sleep page).
  • For the big day : self-hypnosis (stepping into your own calm in moments), breathing trained under hypnosis to hold through intensity, anchors, a "bubble" that filters out the noise, and visualizations (each wave rises, then falls). And your partner, trained for their role : anchoring, encouraging, protecting the bubble.

The format : generally three to five sessions starting in the second trimester, plus a refresher close to your due date — practice between sessions makes the difference.

Perinatal loss

Miscarriage, a baby lost too soon : these losses, often invisible to the world, are supported with the sobriety they deserve, in connection with specialized professionals and organizations (see our Grief & Sadness page).

After Birth: the Fourth Trimester

The early-days blues, and their limits

A passing emotional wave after birth is common and normal — the body is landing.

But if distress settles in over the weeks : exhaustion that's become more than tiredness, sadness that won't lift, overwhelming anxiety, trouble bonding with the baby, or frightening thoughts…, talk to your doctor, your midwife, or Info-Santé 811 without waiting : these situations respond well to care, and the earlier the better.

Our support comes alongside care, never in its place : getting better sleep, easing mental load or "imperfect mother" guilt, working through a hard birth experience.

RQAP leave: an opportunity worth preparing for

Parental leave here is long, and it's a richness that can surprise you : months outside the working rhythm, an identity that shifts, sometimes isolation (a winter with a newborn — you know what that's like).

Then the return to work, a transition all its own (see our Professional Coaching page). These passages deserve support, for the mother as much as for the other parent, whose own vertigo is too rarely taken seriously.
