Hypnosis consultations for Sleep

You go to bed exhausted and the mental hamster wheel starts spinning? You wake at 3 a.m. to run through tomorrow all over again?

Our hypnotherapists support people who want to find natural, restorative sleep again, anywhere in Quebec: in our offices in Montreal, Laval, Gatineau, the Laurentians, Montérégie, the Eastern Townships, Quebec City, Saguenay, or online. No sleeping pills, no miracle recipe: a retraining of the nervous system, usually in two to five sessions.

Understanding Sleep Difficulties

The real culprit: an alert system that no longer comes back down

In the great majority of the insomnia we see in session, sleep itself is not "broken": it is interfered with. The stress accumulated during the day, bedtime rumination and, above all, the fear of not sleeping keep the body on alert at the precise moment it should be letting go.

After a few weeks, the bed becomes synonymous with the struggle: the brain has learned "bed = fight," and it applies that instruction every evening. It is that vicious circle that hypnosis disarms, and it is why "trying harder to sleep" has never worked.

For a detailed look at the three forms of insomnia, the circle of the fear of not sleeping and what the research says, read our full guide on solutionshypnose.com.

SLEEP better with Hypnosis
Video transcript

Sleep disorders are one of the most frequent reasons for consultation with a hypnotherapist. There are different forms: problems going to bed, falling asleep, frequent nocturnal awakenings, difficulty going back to sleep afterwards, ultra morning awakenings... Sleep disorders can be related to hormonal imbalances, unbalanced lifestyles, for example with working the nightshift- or jet lag. But most often they are a symptom of mental or emotional stress, anxiety, or thoughts that are run in loop in your head. If the sleep disorder is caused by a post-traumatic stress, in this case you should consult a psychologist or psychotherapist. The problem - and if you're prone to insomnia you know - is that the more you think about it, the worse it gets.

I have to sleep, I'm going to be tired tomorrow... and so you roll in your bed or you get up to get a glass of water, or to go to the toilet. So why use hypnosis? Contrary to the shows and movies of the 30s, we are not going to look you straight in the eyes and say "and from now on you will sleep like a baby"! That would be the best way to get upset! The goal of hypnosis is to allow you of course to relax deeply which already feels good. But above all to let your imaginative and creative mind take over your rational mind that has already turned the problem 12000 times worst in your head. To understand the ramifications of the problem, possibly the benefits of these sleep disorders even if it seems paradoxical, or to work with symbols, and metaphors.

Let me take an example: a recently retired lady can't fall asleep at night, she always has something to do. Futile things, as she says it herself. While in session with a hypnotherapist, she realizes that she has very boring new life, and when it is time to go to bed, she wants to avoid thinking that she had done nothing with her day. We also have young and very active clients, each case is different... So if you are prone to sleep difficulties, if you wake up in the early morning already tired before you even start the day, try therapeutic hypnosis. The team of hypnotherapists of Solutions Hypnose is here to accompany you. In person or by video, it also works very well. Make an appointment now to create the life you want through hypnosis! See you soon.

Hypnotherapy is a complementary form of support and does not replace medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have any concerns about your health, please consult a physician first.

Hypnotherapy for Sleep

Our support: relearning the way down into sleep

Figure sitting awake in the dark at night

Usually over two to five sessions, we work on:

  • Deep physiological relaxation: retraining the move from alert mode to rest mode, then anchoring it so you can reach it at bedtime.
  • Quieting the mental hamster wheel: letting thoughts pass without grabbing them, closing the day before the bedroom.
  • Unlearning the fear of not sleeping.
  • And self-hypnosis: your tool for self-sufficiency, usable at bedtime and during those 3 a.m. wakings.

If your insomnia travels with background stress, we work on both together: it is the same alert system expressing itself as stress by day and as insomnia by night (see Stress & Anxiety).

Night work, rotating shifts, winter: the Quebec realities of sleep

Quebec sleeps under particular conditions sometimes, and we know them well.

  • Night workers and rotating shifts (health care, factories, transport, security): sleeping in the daytime when the body wants to stay awake takes real relearning. Hypnosis helps create the internal conditions for sleep against the run of the clock.
  • Winter: the lack of light throws the internal clock out and breaks up the nights; the support helps you get through the dark season with steadier sleep.
  • Teenagers: between screens, performance stress and a body clock that naturally runs late, sleep in high school and CEGEP is a fast-growing reason for booking (see Hypnosis for Teens).
  • And for the youngest ones, with trouble falling asleep, evening fears and nightmares, our team includes practitioners who specialize in children, from the age of 4 or 5 (see Hypnosis for Children).

We are neither psychologists nor psychotherapists. Our services are rooted in helping relationships and well-being: they do not constitute psychotherapy (a regulated act in Quebec) and in no case do they replace medical or psychological care. If you are suffering physically or psychologically, see a doctor or a psychologist.
