Hypnosis consultations for Fears

Turning down trips because they'd mean flying? Taking the long way to avoid a highway or a bridge? Putting off the dentist for years?

You know full well these fears are out of proportion, and that doesn't change a thing: your body sounds the alarm without asking your opinion.

Our hypnotherapists support you across Quebec, in person or online, to work through these fears gently, through imagination, at your own pace, never by forcing a confrontation.

We are often asked to help with major fears or phobias. Fear is a normal and useful reaction to a perceived danger. But sometimes the fear grows in importance without any rationale and becomes disabling. A compelling desire to avoid the object of fear, followed by such a relief, comforts the person into believing that absolute avoidance is the best choice. Simple phobias include animals (spider, bird…), situations (fear of flying, dentist…), environment (height, deep water…), the body (fear of medical procedures, of needles…), and so many more. Complex phobias are related to social fears (fear of crowds, of leaving home…) Sometimes there has been a triggering event in your life. For example, a child is being scared by a tiny spider and the loving dad laughs and says “be careful, this spider will eat you up!” Such an innocent comment will trigger arachnophobia, the phobia of spiders Or, to keep the example of the spider, while a child is living through a traumatic event, say the loss of a parent, that child will develop a deep fear of spiders allowing him to feel scarred for a reason not as painful, the phobia becoming a support.

In this case, a psychologist or psychotherapist will be able to help. We will speak together at length to understand your situation as precisely as possible. For example, the fear of flying hides many other fears such as the fera of dying, loss of control, or simple claustrophobia. Knowing that will allow us to precisely choose the words and suggestions. Under hypnosis, especially with visualization techniques, you will gradually desensitize certain situations and reduce the fear to something that you can live with every day. You might never really like being in an elevator, but you will be able to do it when you must. So if you have disabling fears and would like to try therapeutic hypnosis, the team of hypnotherapists at Solutions Hypnose is here to help you. In person at our office or by video, both are equally efficient Make an appointment now to create your best life! See you soon.

Hypnotherapy is a complementary form of support and does not replace medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have any concerns about your health, please consult a physician first.

A Big Fear Isn't a Lack of Courage

It's an accidental learning process in the brain. A bad experience — sometimes just one —, a fear passed down by a parent, or simply years of avoidance that let the thing grow: the emotional brain recorded "flying = danger" or "highway = danger," and it now sounds the alarm automatically, before reason even gets a say. Reasoning with yourself isn't enough, then — you can't argue with an alarm. But what has been learned can be unlearned — that's exactly the work we do together.

To understand in detail how the brain builds these fear reflexes, and how imagination-based work undoes them, read our full guide to fears.

Our Approach: Working Through, Never Confronting

  • First, building and anchoring a deep calm — physical and mental, your new baseline, accessible on demand through a gesture or a breath.
  • Then, working through the situation in imagination: starting from a great distance, as a spectator, then step by step, never going further than you can comfortably handle — you won't have to face your fear for real during sessions.
  • Finally, preparing for the real encounter: detailed mental rehearsal of the flight, the drive, or the appointment, plus pocket self-hypnosis tools for the day itself.

The Big Fears We're Asked About Most in Quebec

Anxious passenger looking at the plane's wing through the window

Fear of driving. The local specialty, and for good reason: the highway, Montreal's interchanges, bridges — and above all, winter. After an accident, sliding off the road on ice, or simply years of avoiding it, the driving comfort zone shrinks… and independence with it, especially outside the city. We also prepare specifically for winter driving: getting back behind the wheel in November with real tools, rather than counting the months until April.

Fear of flying. Trips turned down, honeymoons taken by car, family you no longer visit… The work combines working through the fear in imagination with a detailed rehearsal of the day itself — ideally starting a few weeks before a planned flight, which then becomes the best possible consolidation.

  • Fear of the dentist. Years of postponed care, until the day it just can't wait anymore. This fear responds very well to hypnosis work — many dentists themselves use similar techniques chairside.
  • Animals, needles, heights, enclosed spaces… Dogs, spiders, blood draws, elevators, bridges: every big fear is worked through using the same logic. For fear of needles and blood, let us know if you tend to feel faint: we'll adapt the work, and a note to your doctor is a good idea alongside it.
  • Children's fears. Fear of the dark, of dogs, of storms, of water: very common and very responsive to work done through games and stories, from age 4-5 (see Hypnosis for Children).

Important: Our Scope of Practice, and When to See a Psychologist

We offer support rooted in helping relationships and well-being: we are neither psychologists nor psychotherapists, and our services never replace psychological or medical care. Some situations call for a mental health professional first — and we'll tell you so honestly at the first session: a fear rooted in a significant traumatic event (an assault, a serious accident), a fear so overwhelming it confines you to your home, obsessive thoughts or rituals that take over, or significant distress. In these cases, see a psychologist (a member of the OPQ) or your doctor; our support can then, if you wish and alongside that care, work on calm and confidence.
