Hypnosis consultations to Quit Smoking
You have tried everything: willpower, patches, gum, the fear your doctor put in you… and the cigarette always comes back?
Our hypnotherapists support smokers across Quebec every year, in person in Montreal, the Laurentians, Montérégie, the Eastern Townships, Quebec City and elsewhere, or online. Our approach is honest: no guaranteed miracle in one session, but personalised support over two to three meetings that works where willpower runs out — your automatic habits.
Why is quitting smoking so hard?
It is not nicotine that makes you relapse at six months
Nicotine is only half the problem, and the short half at that.
The other half, the stubborn one, is everything the cigarette does in your daily life: the break that cuts up the working day, the morning coffee, the car, stress, parties.
These automatic habits cannot be reasoned with; they can be reprogrammed.
That is exactly the ground hypnosis works on.
And the cigarette, or the vape, does you favours
It helps with stress, it grants legitimate breaks, it gives you something to do with yourself socially, it marks the end of the working day, it keeps you company when you are alone…
Wanting to remove it without planning anything in its place means asking a part of you to give up its solutions: it resists, logically enough.
That is also why some "successful" quits are paid for with a substitute: snacking, irritability, another replacement habit.

How Hypnosis helps you Quit Smoking
Hypnosis works exactly where willpower runs out: at the level of automatic habits
The hypnotic state is a natural state of focused attention in which unconscious learning becomes accessible and open to change.
In practice, the work acts on three fronts:
- Undoing the automatic habits. Each trigger (coffee, break, car, stress) is identified and then "uncoupled" from the cigarette or the vape: the brain learns that the situation can exist without the gesture. It is the same learning mechanism that installed the habit, used in reverse.
- Renegotiating what the cigarette provided. Rather than creating a gap, hypnotic work replaces what tobacco did for you with healthier resources: other ways to take a real break, to handle a wave of stress, to hold yourself socially. That is the key to avoiding substitutes — food in particular.
- Picturing yourself as a non-smoker. Many long-term smokers no longer know who they would be without cigarettes: quitting feels like a leap into the unknown, even like losing part of their identity. Hypnosis lets you live, in advance and in sensory detail, the life of the person you are becoming: breath regained, pride, freedom. A brain that has already "visited" that future goes there far more willingly.
Support tailored to your profile
Be wary of "95% success in one session": no one can seriously guarantee that.
Our recommendation, based on the team's experience: one main quit session, then one or two reinforcement sessions that consolidate the change and lock in relapse prevention — months two and three are where it is decided.
From the first session, the work also anticipates the two classic traps of quitting: food as a substitute (quitting without putting on ten pounds is a matter of preparation, not luck) and switching to the e-cigarette, which often replaces one dependency with another.
We also support quitting vaping (increasingly common, particularly among young adults) and cannabis (legal does not mean easy to stop, and the evening joint for sleep or for winding down responds very well to hypnosis).
Every member of the team adapts their tools to your profile: direct suggestion, aversion techniques, metaphor and visualisation.
We recommend planning at least two to three sessions: one main quit session, then reinforcement to consolidate and prevent relapse.
From experience, many clients who cancel their reinforcement session because "things are going so well" are the ones who call us back a few months later.
What it costs, and what it saves
First session (specific quit-smoking format): one hour at $135 or an hour and a half at $185, taxes included, depending on the team member; some practitioners offer complete support packages, see their individual pages.
Run the numbers the other way: a pack-a-day smoker spends around $5,000 a year in Quebec.

Frequently asked questions about Hypnosis to Quit Smoking
That depends on your plan. Our practitioners issue receipts (counselling, naturotherapy or hypnotherapy depending on their affiliation — RITMA, ANN), but not every group insurance plan accepts them.
Our recommendation: check with your insurer before the first session, specifying the type of receipt your chosen practitioner issues.
We recommend planning two to three sessions: the quit, then the reinforcement.
Some people stop after the very first meeting, which is all to the good, but the reinforcement session remains the best insurance against relapse in months two and three.
Talk it over with your hypnotherapist, to confirm this is the right time for you.
Yes, and demand is climbing fast.
A vape often creates a more continuous dependency than a cigarette: there is no "end of the cigarette", the gesture is permanent, and the nicotine consumed is sometimes higher than before. The hypnotic work is the same: undo the automatic habits and replace what the gesture provides.
Yes. Many of our clients use it "to sleep" or "to wind down". That is precisely what the support replaces with other resources, rather than leaving a gap. If sleep is the crux of it, we work on that specifically: see Sleep.
Yes. The hypnotic state depends on the voice and on your attention, not on physical presence.
Results by video are comparable to those in person. It is the option chosen by our clients on the Côte-Nord, in Abitibi or in the Gaspé, and by everyone who would rather avoid the traffic.
You call us back, with no embarrassment. A relapse does not reset the counter: the resources built during the support are still there, and one reinforcement session is often enough to get back on track. Most lasting ex-smokers went through more than one attempt before the right one.
We are neither psychologists nor psychotherapists. Our services are rooted in helping relationships and well-being: they do not constitute psychotherapy (a reserved act in Quebec) and in no case do they replace medical or psychological care. If you are suffering physically or psychologically, see a doctor or a psychologist.
